We are delighted to announce our latest step in our sustainability Journey #BeGreenBeSeen – and it is possibly our most important, and most exciting, step yet: after partnering with Forest Carbon and investing into the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Borneo, Indonesia, we have offset 765 tonnes of logistics emissions from 2020.

Ever since we launched the #BeGreenBeSeen campaign, offsetting elements of our carbon footprint has been one of the top priorities – and we quickly found out that doing this was a lot easier said than done.

Forest Carbon offered us a different, innovative, exciting way of doing exactly what we wanted to achieve – and after being shown a variety of different reserves and conservations, we decided that Rimba Raya was the perfect one for us to invest in.

Rimba Raya – dubbed ‘The Infinite Forest’ is an InfiniteEarth biodiversity reserve located in Borneo, Indonesia that focuses on improving the climate, community & biodiversity of the surrounding areas – with a specific focus on the protection and preservation of hundreds of at-risk species, most notably the Borneo Orangutan.

Rimba Raya also protects of 640 square kilometres of tropical peat forest and forms a vital protective wall between the bulldozers of the palm oil industry and the Tanjung Putting National Park, which is home to one of the last remaining wild populations of Orangutan on earth.

Not only this, Rimba Raya helps develop the local communities and villages by providing essential equipment and benefits such as fuel-efficient cooking stoves, low maintenance water pumps and affordable healthcare. All these things are vital in trying to reduce the amount of poverty in the surrounding areas and encourage healthier, more positive lifestyles.

On top of looking after local wildlife and local communities – Rimba Raya also plays a big part in ensuring the local climate is kept healthy and strong. Indonesia is already the largest producer of palm oil in the world and there are plans to double the output over the next few years. This will result in billions of tonnes of carbon being released into the atmosphere, posing a very serious long-term threat to our global climate.

The Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve is a carbon-rich tropical peat forest and an emissions avoidance capacity of over 130 million tonnes – which is the equivalent of removing one million cars from the worlds highways every year for the next 30 years - and is one of the single largest emissions avoidance projects in the entire world.

Furthermore, the Rimba Raya project meets all 17 Sustainable Development Goals that were developed by the United Nations in 2015 in order to unite countries and governments from across the world in the fight against global warming, and to improve health and education, reduce inequality and spur economic growth.

We are really proud to be investing into this project, which will enable us to enrich the lives of the local population, preserve some of the most endangered wildlife in the world and help reduce carbon emissions emitted from the area. We fully expect this to be an ongoing investment from ourselves, as we ourselves continue our journey to become the most sustainable company we possibly can be.
